New Zealand won by 204 runs

Trent Boult

Holder – captain, WI: “Obviously disappointed. We didn’t play good enough cricket today. I thought it was a reasonable total to go and chase but we lost wickets upfront. We have to address issues with the bat. Need to put some runs on the bat, whether batting first or second.”
Latham – captain, NZ: “I think Nicholls and Astle put on a good partnership. The way they started and put the foot down at the end was outstanding. The game was probably won there (when Boult picked those early wickets). I never dreamed of (captaining on my home ground) but the opportunity arrived. Hopefully we can put on another dominant performance on Boxing Day. Having bowlers who can bowl 150ks does make my job easier.”

Boult – Player of the Match: “I think everyone says you just have those days but you can’t pin it down to anything. There was a little bit of movement with the new ball. Getting seven wasn’t something I was expecting. Somehow the intensity gets up when the white ball comes out. Obviously the batsmen try to hit you off your length. Today I just kept it simple. Tried to bowl a few short balls. Good to see such depth in the bowling stocks at the moment. Nice to see guys coming into the team and doing well. Lockie was very impressive. He’s had a great summer in domestic cricket and he’s come out here and continued it.”
