Andre McCarthy (60) and Mohammad Sami (four wickets) played pivotal roles to secure Jamaica Tallawahs’ hard-fought 12-run win over Barbados Tridents in Florida. Incidentally, Tridents had usurped their arch-rivals by an identical margin in their last game.
Scores: Jamaica Tallawahs 154/5 in 20 overs (Andre McCarthy 60, Shakib Al Hasan 44*; Wahab Riaz 3-32) beat Barbados Tridents 142 in 20 overs (Kieron Pollard 62; Mohammad Sami 4-12) by 12 runs.
Pollard’s big-hitting ensured that the equation was brought down to a gettable 25 runs off the last two overs. Sami, though, provided the finishing touches by prising out Wahab Riaz (1) and bagging the key scalp of Pollard in the 19th over to more or less seal the deal for Tallawahs.
In the final over, Tridents needed 22 but Santokie dismissed Ravi Rampaul off the final ball of the innings to bundle out the opposition as they slipped to their first defeat of the season. Sami returned impressive figures of 4 for 12.
Earlier, after Lendl Simmons (30) had laid the platform for Tallawahs to notch up a competitive total, McCarthy crunched a volley of shots to up the ante. Shakib (44 not out) also played a vital hand for the Jamaican franchise. Their opponents, Tridents, would rue the fact that McCarthy was dropped twice.Via
