Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade’s move back to his home team Tasmania was confirmed as the side announced their list of contracted players for the 2017-18 season on Thursday (August 17) morning. Wade, who spent 10 years with Victoria, is set to return to the home state due to family reasons.
The 29-year-old also happens to be one of the two Cricket Australia contracted players on Tasmania’s list for the season, along with pacer Jackson Bird. Wade’s return, however, had no impact on Paine earning another deal with the side.
Wade, who has been leading Victoria for the last four seasons, left Tasmania in pursuit of greater opportunities as Tim Paine remained the side’s first-choice ‘keeper back then.
While Wade is one of five new faces on the full contracts’ list for the season, retired Test and ODI spinner Xavier Doherty is amongst the four who missed out.
