“If a good cricketer wants a break in any of the Baroda teams, he must have a godfather. Those in the cricket improvement committee are now the godfathers as they run cricket in the BCA,” Williams said.
Mehendi Sheikh, who coached Irfan in his initial cricketing days, said the selectors are mistreating senior players and it can affect the team’s morale in the middle of the season.
“Irfan was made skipper of the team at the start of the season and after just two matches the selectors suddenly find him unsuitable to even play in the team. If they are talking about performances, then there are still some players in the current team who haven’t performed this season. Why were they picked up?” questioned Sheikh.
BCA chairman of selectors Leslie Fernandez had on Sunday cited lack of performance for leaving Irfan out of the team. He said it was a cricketing decision and not due to any difference of opinion over players’ selection.

“Even an experienced cricketer like Munaf Patel wasn’t picked up for this season. If the selectors make such a decision, it should be conveyed to senior players and they should be taken into confidence. We will reach out to the BCA members and expose such behaviour of the selectors,” Williams said.
