Kent vs Sussex, Tunbridge Wells
Sussex, who needed an imposing 504 to register a memorable win, lost wickets at regular intervals to find themselves in trouble. Coles and Darren Stevens struck early to reduce Kent to 8 for 3. James Harris, the former Glamorgan all-rounder, then snared the key scalp of Luke Wright (38) to cause further damage.
Stiaan van Zyl (78) then shared a stand of 85 with Michael Burgess (44*) to resurrect the innings to some extent. However, at the fag end of the day’s play, Denly prised out van Zyl and Chris Jordan to maintain Kent’s supremacy. Earlier, Daniel Bell-Drummond (90), Sean Dickson (71) and Joe Denly (71) had crunched fifties to pilot Kent to 298 for 2 declared in their second innings.
