Chandika Hathurusingha has been named as Sri Lanka’s new head coach, Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed on Friday (December 8). SLC said that the 49-year-old will take over the role from December 20.

Sri Lanka have had a tough year in 2017 having been whitewashed in Test cricket by South Africa and India. Apart from defeats to Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, they also suffered 5-0 clean sweeps against South Africa, India and Pakistan.
Their poor run in ODIs this year put automatic qualification for the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019 in jeopardy. Eventually, they narrowly qualified ahead of Windies.
