Scores: Guyana Amazon Warriors 123/7 in 20 overs (Chadwick Walton 60; Hasan Ali 2-19, Sheldon Cottrell 2-18) lost to St Kitts and Nevis Patriots 124/6 in 19 overs (Carlos Brathwaite 31, Jonathan Carter 29*; Ryad Emrit 2-14, Steven Jacobs 2-23) by four wickets.
Chadwick Walton’s fighting half-century went in vain as St Kitts and Nevis Patriots opened their Caribbean Premier League campaign with a four-wicket win over Guyana Amazon Warriors, in Florida on Saturday (August 5).
Walton played a lone hand for the second half of the Warriors’ innings but could only take his side to a moderate 123 for 7 in their allotted quota. Patriots suffered a top-order collapse in reply but Carlos Brathwaite revived the hopes and Jonathan Carter helped the team get across the line with an over to spare.
Put in to bat first, Warriors got off to a flying start courtesy skipper Martin Guptill’s stroke-filled 23 off just 14. Samuel Badree put an end to the early fireworks by taking out the skipper, but Walton revived the innings by joining hands with Pakistan batsman Babar Azam for a 45-run partnership for the second wicket – their best in the night.
