IPL 2018

CSK not a team, it’s a family : Dwayne Bravo

“I honestly believe they deserve to be there despite what’s going on in West Indies cricket. I love to see West Indies compete amongst the best,” said the 34-year-old Trinidadian.

In an interaction during a CSK event on Thursday (March 22), Bravo spoke about his reunion with CSK, on the upcoming IPL, on Windies cricket and what makes the Caribbean stars a hit in T20 cricket across the globe. Excerpts:

You are back with CSK again after two years. How is it to be in the yellows and talk us through your preparations heading into the IPL?

Coming to back to Chennai is like homecoming for me. We missed it in the last two years. I was really hoping and praying (during auction) that I come back to Chennai. I’m thankful to the management for showing a lot of faith in me. I didn’t play any cricket after the Big Bash and was resting. I wanted to ensure that I prepare myself mentally and physically so that I can come and give my best for the city and franchise. I know the people in Chennai suffered for the last two years (without CSK). We are happy that most of us are back. I’m looking forward to the tournament.

At one point, West Indies’ participation in the 2019 World Cup looked doubtful. Could you ever imagine a World Cup without two-time champions Windies?

First of all, congrats to the team and I’m happy for the guys. There is a Fifa World Cup (to be held this year) without Italy. So, these things are possible. No team or country is guaranteed of anything. But at the same time, I’m happy that West Indies have made it. It’s a young team and I wish them all the best. I honestly believe they deserve to be there despite what’s going on in West Indies cricket. I love to see West Indies compete amongst the best and we always do well in World Cups. Hopefully I will play the World Cup as well.

You had said after the auction that CSK is the best T20 franchise in the world. What separates CSK from other teams you have played for?

CSK is not just a cricket team, it’s like a family. Apart from playing in the IPL, players actually keep in touch with each other. The management also keeps in touch with players. Most of my fan following is from India and mostly from Chennai. I can feel the love and appreciation from the fans. It’s a special team. It is being led by the best captain in the world. To play under MS Dhoni is a special moment for any player. For me personally, CSK have done a lot. I just enjoy representing the yellow army.
