Jayawardene to lead MCC in T20

Former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene has been named captain of the Marylebone Cricket Club for the T20 tri-series next month at Lord’s featuring Nepal and Netherlands.

The Scottish trio of batsman Dylan Budge, premier fast bowler Alasdair Evans and left-arm spinner, Mark Watt, all three who were a part of Scotland’s emphatic win over the overpowered opposition of England at the Grange on June 10, and then faced off against the touring Aboriginal XI in the 150 year commemorative tour, are also a part of the MCC XI.

He made almost 12,000 runs in his 149 Test matches, averaging 49.84, as well as 12,650 runs in One-Day Internationals, averaging 33.37 across 448 matches. He also played 55 T20 Internationals, scoring 1,493 runs. In all, he made 54 centuries for his country across the three formats.

“Despite this incident, I am glad to say Rahul and I remained good friends and even on the field, our camaraderie remained intact until the end of our careers. We continued to have some good partnerships and neither our cricket nor our friendship was affected.”
